Dawn creates a mirage--bathing this scene in beautiful light. But get any closer and a whole bunch of Ugly comes into view with scrap metal and debris.

This was a one-time Texaco gas station, grocery store, and restaurant complex. The "camp" was the large shaded and screened area at left, where early travelers would bed down for the night.

This is just about the last flat spot before mountain driving begins heading west to Oatman on the original Route 66.
