MADE TO LAST (Virginia City NV)
This 1950 Packard marked the beginning of the end. GM's Cadillac decisively outsold Packard in this model year, reversing their positions from 1948. GM had the muscle for annual model changes, while independent Packard stuck with dowdy "pregnant elephant" styling.
By 1958 it was all over, Packard had disappeared even while its cars continued to serve their aging owners well.
