LITTLE CROSSINGS BRIDGE-BELOW (National Road nr Grantsville MD)
This stone bridge was built over an intended canal that never came this far. Settlers crossed on foot, horseback, and in Conestoga wagons, heading into the wilderness of the Ohio Territory.
The 1813 bridge continued in use into the early automobile era. Today it's in a park-setting with traffic on US 40 and I-68 nearby.
