CARSON PASS #1 (nr Sorensens CA)
This was the most widely-used pioneer entrance to CA. Explorer John Fremont crossed it westbound during the winter of 1844. Eastbound Mormons improved it with a trail in 1848. Although higher than Donner Pass it's an easier climb.
CA highway 88 uses it now, connecting Sonora to the NV line and eventually to Carson City. The view is in early May.
