The red vehicle has just crossed a famous border. The Mason-Dixon line runs at a steep diagonal from bottom left to upper right.

Mason and Dixon were two English surveyors called over before the Revolutionary War to settle a boundary dispute between Pennsylvania and Maryland. This line was also the boundary between slave and non-slave states, and to an extent between North and South.

Road crews have obliterated the actual line for their convenience--the tar strip is the unofficial boundary. Pennsylvania is on the right and the red vehicle is traveling southeast into Maryland.
