This scene has been playing out now for 68,000+ sunrises. No doubt many early settlers took in this same view--one last look to the east--before turning westward again, toward an unknown future.

This 1828 S-bridge saw traffic from Conestoga wagons, then Model Ts, before being abandoned. The restored deck combines vintage and replacement bricks--approximating the early automobile era. This was briefly US 40 in the numbered highway era (beginning 1926) until a much larger bridge was constructed.
