This is part of a classic sign for a product made in Terre Haute, a few minutes away on the National Road. The clock still works and the wooden sign of 1940s design gets regular painting.

Most of today's billboards by contrast are simply giant vinyl tarps, computer-printed in a factory then stretched over a plywood or metal frame. Billboard painters have almost become as obsolete as gargoyle carvers.
