PAINTED BRICK, PAINTED MORTAR (National Road nr Highland IL)

PAINTED BRICK, PAINTED MORTAR (National Road nr Highland IL)

The painted decoration on this old house is actually far greater than it appears. Every brick is painted red and the mortar inbetween is painted white! (It's peeling in a few places and the true surfaces are revealed.)

This is on US 40 about 35 miles (55 km) beyond the official National Road terminus in Vandalia IL. This was an active settlement route heading to St. Louis and is promoted as part of the National Road by the state of Illinois.
