KING'S TAVERN #1 (Natchez Trace Natchez MS)

KING'S TAVERN #1 (Natchez Trace Natchez MS)

This is the oldest tavern in Natchez, dating from 1789. It was built by the Spanish military in the 1760s with a stable on the lower floor.

During the peak Trace years, returning boatmen would meet here and form groups for safety. In one sense the Trace began and ended at the building's back door.

This image was taken at the very end of winter (the season has no bite this far south). A watercolor effect has been added.

The tavern still offers upscale dining and a bar. Info: http://www.kingstavernnatchez.com
