RUBY STREET DRAWBRIDGE #1 (Rt 66 Joliet IL)

RUBY STREET DRAWBRIDGE #1 (Rt 66 Joliet IL)

Many Route 66 travelers saw this looming ahead over the years. The bridge dates from 1935 and is still in service.

The Des Plaines River has other Joliet crossings--all drawbridges. They would rise at nearly the same time to let a ship pass.

In this image, reflective yellow paint glows as sunlight streams through the deck.
