SOULSBY'S & SHADOWS (Rt 66 Mt Olive IL)

SOULSBY'S & SHADOWS (Rt 66 Mt Olive IL)

Afternoon sun in late winter creates shadows on the east and north sides of this 1926 station. Route 66 moved, but Russell Soulsby kept on keeping on. The station was in business for 65 long years. When he wasn't busy with customers, he was fixing TV sets.

In between the Mustang and the pumps is an old ramp now blocked by a tree. That was used for under-car repairs, oil changes and the like. Imagine doing outdoor mechanical work in the middle of an Illinois winter!

Another image shows the two classic but mismatched pumps from under the canopy.
