A detail from the Selz Shoe Sign reproduction. The $4.00 shoes were top-of-the-line, others cost $3.50.

The Selz brand was once widely advertised with painted signs on brick. Away from Rt 66, other originals (known as "ghost signs") survive in various stages of faded glory.
