SARAH KEYES MONUMENT #2 (nr Marysville KS)

SARAH KEYES MONUMENT #2 (nr Marysville KS)

A marker for the first person in the Donner Party to die. Sarah Keyes was the mother-in-law of key organizer James Reed. She was around 70 and started the trip in ill health. She got this far, riding in a custom-built wagon from near Springfield IL.

A large swale is visible in back, along with a signboard and bench. The pioneer crossing of the Big Blue River, and Alcove Spring, are both nearby.
