GARDNER #5 (Gardner KS)

GARDNER #5 (Gardner KS)

At the "Gardner Junction" park setting, an approximation of the mid-1800s joining, or splitting, of the Santa Fe Trail with the Oregon and California Trails. The view is roughly west over prairie dotted with trees.

The truck on US 56 at far left shows the way to Santa Fe, while the bird at far right indicates the split for the Oregon and California Trails.

In reality, the entire area was filled with wagons at peak times, some passing to gain advantage. In wide-open country there was no reason to travel single-file.
