CALIFORNIA HILL #3 (nr Brule NE)
This late-day view is roughly south-east. For pioneers, it was toward former homes. California Hill is just behind this vantage point.
Today this is a cattle grazing area. Irrigated farming is in the middle distance, with a center pivot sprinkler at right. I-80 is in the far distance with farms beyond.
The pair of dual tracks in the foreground may stem from ox-drawn wagons, accentuated by cows, modern farm vehicles, rain, snow, wind and erosion.
At extreme right is a small cactus--a prickly pear--a nasty desert plant best avoided. It would also have been a sign to emigrants that the easy part of the trip was ending.
