The 1957 Ford actually outsold Chevy that model year. Chevy was offering a reworked 1955 model. Ford had tasteful all-new sheet metal with a sleek low design and canted fins.

But not everybody's into good taste. For them, there was the continental tire kit that stuck way out and made getting into the trunk all but impossible. It also created a lot of wind drag--not that it mattered much with gas so cheap and plentiful.
