PEDESTRIAN CROSSING (Erie Canal Buffalo NY)
Gold leaf on the former Buffalo Savings Bank is a metaphor for the city. The institution, then called Goldome, failed and was placed in receivership in the 1980s.
Beneath the golden spendor, Main Street manages to be both cluttered and desolate. On a late morning in October, a bundled-up pedestrian crosses while a trolley car passes him by. An artistic effect has been added.
