This early-50s section had two narrow lanes and quickly proved inadequate for increasing traffic. It acquired the "Slaughter Lane" title yet continued in service until the mid-70s when I-40 in the distance was opened, severing it. The remnant section on the other end is still visible outside Russell's Travel Center, and shown in a companion image.
