The view looks east, late in the day, toward ruins of the Painted Desert Trading Post. It was abandoned in the mid-1950s when this lonely stretch was bypassed. In the side-view mirror is an original bridge with 66 angling up the hill to the right beyond it. The blind-spot mirror shows decaying asphalt.

Actual landscape colors are visible in the mirrors and open space above them. The windshield cuts both glare and color--especially noticeable in the grass.

People who only drive past miss a lot.
