OAK COOLER (Lincoln Highway State Center IA)
Back before frozen food, there was refrigeration in oak chests provided by a big block of ice. Eggs, butter and lard were commonly sourced locally. You can see butter with the State Center brand, probably distributed to this and a few surrounding towns.
This beautifully-refinished antique has been retrofitted with interior lighting and is part of Watsons Grocery, now a museum.
