UP 844 WESTBOUND (Lincoln Highway Potter NE)

UP 844 WESTBOUND (Lincoln Highway Potter NE)

The Lincoln Highway, now US 30, is just out of sight to the right. Steam locomotives were widespread until after World War II. They have been replaced by more efficient diesels.

UP 844 was the last steam engine ordered by Union Pacific in 1944. It originally was used in passenger service and pulled trains like the Overland Limited.

UP 844 is maintained for special events like this excursion run. An artistic effect has been added.
