Tracks from a long-vanished streetcar are still visible. Old, old postcards show a vibrant shopping district here at the southern tip of Illinois--where the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers meet.

But there's almost nothing to buy now. One side of Commercial Avenue has largely been bulldozed. The other, shown here, is largely vacant and in advanced decay.
