DIVIDING LINES (Rt 66 Glenrio NM/TX)

DIVIDING LINES (Rt 66 Glenrio NM/TX)

Looking east at dawn just inside New Mexico, a raised concrete median separates the deserted four lanes of Rt 66 and ends at the Texas line. Beyond this, I-40 takes over the original alignment with one vehicle heading west.

A fragment of the old "First Motel in Texas" sign is visible on the left. Despite Glenrio offering no services (just photo-ops and memories), it's not as desolate as it may seem. The New Mexico Welcome Center is only a short distance away.
