This downtown dogleg was eliminated by one of the first bypasses, also narrow concrete, built in 1928. Some is still visible north of town next to modern Rt 66--two lanes of blacktop. Then in 1953 came the Turner Turnpike, later called I-44. The nearest entrance is 7-miles away.
