MOCHILA (St Joseph MO)

MOCHILA (St Joseph MO)

The leather mochila (Mo-CHEE-la) fits over a saddle and is held in place by the Pony Express rider. This one is from the 100th Anniversary Pony Express Re-Ride in 1960. It has smaller pouches and less decoration than ones used today.

This is part of the office display at Patee House, where the Pony Express had its headquarters in 1860-61. But something is wrong--can you guess what it is?

The Coke bottle! Coca-Cola wouldn't be developed until 1886, and the contour bottle was designed in 1915.
