The scene is from the Missouri shore looking up and across at the bridge deck. The girder in the foreground, near eye-level, has yet to be touched by morning sun and is still coated with overnight moisture.

Two sections of steel are spliced at this point. They are joined with plates on the top, sides and bottom, and held together with rivets.
