SANTA FE LOCOMOTIVE (Rt 66 nr Sapulpa OK)

SANTA FE LOCOMOTIVE (Rt 66 nr Sapulpa OK)

It's almost like old times. This view from the brick-decked 1925 Rock Creek Bridge shows a vintage locomotive. But this is actually the second loco in a set of three. The lead unit, just out of sight to the left, is much newer and carries the markings of BNSF. The "SF" stands for Santa Fe.

The Santa Fe (also known back then as the AT&SF) was a close companion along the Mother Road's western half. An excellent photo-rich book on this is Route 66 Railway by Elrond Lawrence (ISBN 978-0-615-21407-8).
