The National Pony Express Association (I'm a member) stages annual Re-Rides with uniformed volunteers.
Images are combined from 2017 (westbound) and 2018 (eastbound), along a close approximation of the 1860-61 route.
Original riders were men and boys, and there was no dress code. They rode a much longer distance from a Home Station, and changed horses frequently at Relay Stations.
