When the Lincoln Highway was established in 1913 this was the symbolic beginning. The western terminus was at the Pacific Ocean in San Francisco. In between, there were 3388 miles (5420 km) of brick, gravel, mud and adventure. Some of it was even marked!

The Lincoln Highway was never important in big cities. And today this birthplace of our highway system--including the Interstates--is still largely overlooked. New Yorkers and tourists have other things to do.

In fact, this part of Times Square is relatively calm. The zone is actually a triangle expanding at will for promotional needs of hotels and restaurants.
