US Army Engineers cut the stones to exacting specifications and constructed this bridge without mortar. Others like this along the National Road have disappeared or been modified over the years. This is still original except for modern guard rails and pavement.

Somebody driving here, on the west side of Marshall IL, would have to stop and read the historical marker to realize the bridge is about 175 years old.
