CSA MONUMENT #3 (Natchez Trace Port Gibson MS)

CSA MONUMENT #3 (Natchez Trace Port Gibson MS)

The soldier doesn't appear old enough to shave, much less to fight--and die. This 1900 monument was put up by Whites marking their turf and solidifying racist Jim Crow laws.

It is obviously weathered and unkept, not a surprise since it glorifies a slave-owning society and the county is now 89% Black. Both races have moved out, population peaked around the time the statue went up.
