Strong sunlight (there's no other kind here) rakes elaborate metalwork on the famous sign. Note the extra effort that went into the serif on letter R.

In reality none of this was necessary. There's almost nothing else around and a simple plastic sign backlit by fluorescent bulbs would have worked just as well.
