LASALLE 113 CALIFORNIA (Rt 66 Barstow CA)
From this low angle, it almost looks like a bowling trophy left out in the rain. In reality, this bent and rusting late-30s LaSalle was a trophy car, sold alongside Cadillac as its entry-luxury model.
LaSalle was the first car styled for GM by Harley Earl, who became its legendary head of design. Earl may or may not have borrowed from a bowling trophy here, but he most certainly took design cues from military jets later on. The '57 and '58s with their now-classic fins were the last models he supervised before retirement.
The TV show "All in the Family" started every episode with Archie and Edith Bunker at the piano, singing nostalgically about their "old LaSalle."
