Classic Shure, RCA and Western Electric mikes crowd a corner of the Sun Records studio where Elvis made his first recordings. These top-of-the-line mikes were mixed into a single-track Ampex reel-tape machine...a very basic way to achieve high-quality. Sun founder Sam Phillips came from Memphis radio, and this is what a well-equipped station would have had in the early 50s.
