SYCAMORE ROW (nr Deer Creek IN)

SYCAMORE ROW (nr Deer Creek IN)

This was the first road to be improved in Indiana. The Michigan Road stretched from Madison northwest to Lake Michigan. Crude grading and wooden bridges helped settlers populate Indiana from south to north. The National (Cumberland) Road came later and they intersect in Indianapolis.

This spot is some 150 miles from Madison. The modern road (SH 29) avoids the narrow pavement with a bypass just out of sight.
