Images in this series are from the ghost town of Hamilton, 10 miles (16 km) from US 50. This was on the Lincoln Highway, as other images show.

Hamilton had a very brief era of glory. Founded in 1868 with a silver discovery, it had 12,000 people and perhaps 100 saloons by 1869. Mines were quickly exhausted and the town was in decline by 1870. An 1873 fire sealed its fate. Today, nobody lives here.
