DOWNHILL (Lincoln Highway nr Eastgate NV)

DOWNHILL (Lincoln Highway nr Eastgate NV)

Henry Ford, alone of the major auto makers, refused to help fund the Lincoln Highway. Instead he wanted public funding, which of course eventually happened.

Because of Ford's tremendous market share, his company was by far the largest beneficiary of a road whose major backers included rivals Packard, Willys-Overland, GM and others. Henry Ford and his customers got a free ride.

A watercolor effect has been added to this scene along NV Highway 722, built in the mid-1920s with donated money from the Lincoln Highway Association.
