Looking out from the Hastings Building, in 1860 the site of the Alta California Telegraph office. This was the original western terminus of the Pony Express. From here, news from the east went by wire.

The site is now a Wells Fargo museum but the telegraph wire at far left and general street scene are accurate to that era.
