A Pony Express rider heads through the middle of nowhere. The trail came through those mountains in back, across the desert floor and into more mountains nearing Nevada. The steel has been degraded by graffiti, touch-up paint, and of course the sun.

The Lincoln Highway also came this way, down roads that are still dirt and rock with only a brief stretch of bad pavement.
