The Pony Express crossed through here. Westbound riders disappeared in the distance through the open door frame.

There was, of course, no road at the time, just a path. The Lincoln Highway (US 93) crosses the Pony Express Trail here. The gutted truck is from the 1930s.

Many Pony Express riders were teenagers in 1860-61. It's theoretically possible some could have lived to experience the Lincoln Highway era of motor vehicles, telephones, radio and state-maintained roads.
