JUPITER DIGITAL #7 (Promontory UT)
Jupiter comes in from the west, after crossing the mountains and deserts from Sacramento CA. The wood-burning locomotive was built in Schenectady NY, and taken by ship around the coast of South America.
It must have been a stirring sight when it pulled into view in 1869--positive proof that the nation was finally linked.
The area near the north shore of Great Salt Lake has fewer people than in 1870 or so, when there were isolated settlements along the railroad. The scenery hasn't changed at all.
