Back around 1950 or so, you had "Dairy Queen" and "Tastee-Freeze" selling franchises for soft-serve ice cream stands.

This enterprising merchant simply combined the names to make up his own brand--"Dairy Freeze."

With frequent stoplights on this dual-lane section of 66, trips took longer and people might have been more inclined to stop. Air conditioned cars were rare then too.

Eventually, the traffic all moved out onto I-40 and Aubrey's Dairy Freeze is now just a sweet memory.
