ALDER CREEK #1 (nr Truckee CA)

ALDER CREEK #1 (nr Truckee CA)

The sign follows the standard US government format but it's horribly inappropriate here (although there are picnic tables).

The two Donner families and others were forced to endure the winter of 1846-47 in makeshift shelters. Others in their group were six-miles (10 km) west near what is now Donner Lake.

All were without food. Many perished, and survivors resorted to cannibalism.
