OLD WAYS (Lincoln Highway Donner Pass CA)
Two hikers appear at left center and add a sense of scale. The Lincoln Highway climbed the narrow curving path at center. The Transcontinental Railroad (originally Central Pacific) crossed via the China Wall section at center top, and entered the tunnel.
The Lincoln Highway originally crossed the rails at grade, drivers had to open and close doors in snow sheds. (Rails and sheds have been removed.) Later came a one-lane viaduct, shown in other images.
