A 1919 plaque on the rock that anchored the Murphy family cabin. The Donners, six miles (10 km) away, had only crude improvised tents during the brutal 1846-47 winter.
The plaque has mistakes. This is the east end, and victims were buried by soldiers at another cabin site.
