BYPASS VICTIM (Rt 66 Depew OK)

BYPASS VICTIM (Rt 66 Depew OK)

This is known locally as the Gimmel station, but the spelling is in doubt. It's the only gas station survivor of the Rt 66 era downtown. In 1928, Depew became the first town entirely bypassed on Rt 66.

This long-closed Sinclair gas station appears to have had two pumps on the inside island and one on the outside.

It's on a path Route 66 took from 1926 to 1928. The narrow concrete pavement was put in by the city of Depew. It served as Route 66 until the state put in a straight-across bypass, north of town.
