66 IN A MIRROR (Rt 66 nr Bristow OK)

66 IN A MIRROR (Rt 66 nr Bristow OK)

It looks mighty inviting now--a scenic drive with twists and a banked turn. Plus there's only one other vehicle present--a small truck.

But back in the black-and-white era of Route 66, that inviting curve would at times have a Greyhound bus and a truck attempting to get through. In the rain. Or maybe snow.

This scene is on the bypassed "Tank Farm Loop" which has several miles of original concrete.

The black-and-white conversion is accurate only up to a point. Very few cars back then had sideview mirrors.
