FORT ROSS #1 (nr Plantation CA)

FORT ROSS #1 (nr Plantation CA)

The Russians once were a "player" on the west coast. Fort Ross was a heavily-fortified trading post 70 miles north of San Francisco.

This was nominally Spanish then Mexican territory at the time (1812-42). But neither had the power to drive out the Russians.

Fort Ross is now a CA state historical park.
