RUSTING PACKARD, CA PLATES (Rt 66 Goffs CA)

The car is from about 1950. The plates were last legal in 1963.

Packard was once an independent brand that rivaled GM's Cadillac. Originally, Packard used "Series" numbers and did not feel it had to restyle every year. But in the '50s it was forced into a disastrous styling and model-year war with the Caddy.

Packard merged with Studebaker and negative "synergy" drove both out of business within a decade.
