Air-conditioned automobiles were a dream in 1936. Route 66 like most highways moved in single file with a heavy truck up ahead.

This Buick has a windshield sun visor, attached with a heavy chrome bracket at our left. The side-vent window produced a blast of rushing air at highway speed.

Surrounding the driver is a "Passing Eye" mirror device sold by J.C. Whitney and others. The mirror at far right sticks out to spot oncoming traffic. It reflects onto the other mirror visible to the driver--allowing him to pull out and pass.
